When Love Meets Justice

Recently I ran across a book by John Piper titled, “Fifty Reason Why Jesus Came to Die”, and a thought popped into my mind. Why do we need fifty reasons? It should take less than a second to see the reason, the only really important reason, why Jesus came to die. Some days the reason makes no sense at all, but that doesn’t mean it is not there. God is just. God is love. God’s love is willing to meet the demands of His justice. Even if that means sending his only son to be crucified for sinners. It’s out of love for his people. God made us because he wanted a creation to look after and watch, and love. He knew what human nature would do, and in His creativity he put His Son, fully God and fully man, on the earth to pay for our sins; out of His justice and love.
If God, who is all powerful, is willing to send his son for our sake then why should it be so hard for us to sacrifice for him? Human nature can be awfully much in the way sometimes. But really, we say we love Him, and know He loves us but when it comes down to it we make it seem so very hard to spend only fifteen minutes a day with Him! Why are we trying to make time for the creator of time? Kind of ironic, huh? Can you imagine a marriage between a man and woman spent like that? It would be pitiful, and most likely end in divorce. Fortunately, God is not going to give up on us, but that is not reason to put Him off. He’s going wait, but He is ever so eager to have you. A friend of mine said something like this, “You don’t have to transform to accept Jesus. You just have to accept Him and he will transform you.” This statement holds such a truth. Piper did have some wise word to say, one of them being, “Sin is not small because it is not against a small sovereign.” We need God, and He wants us. He made a huge sacrifice for us, will we make even small sacrifices for Him? We cannot survive without Him. Are you willing to let your love for Him meet the demands of justice?

(This is a recent essay I wrote. As you can probably tell, it's where the title of this blog comes from. A verse that has also inspired the title is in the blog description. But for some reason I cannot seem to get the color to change so it is kind of hard to read...Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you. [John 89:14]  This was almost written more to inspire myself than anyone else. I do hope that it makes you begin to think though. Be blessed! ~Sveta)
